Have you ever won­dered what the “Im feel­ing lucky” but­ton does on  a Google search?

The answer is actu­ally ridicu­lously sim­ple. All it does is dis­play the num­ber one result on the Google Data­base for the par­tic­u­lar search term that you use. There is noth­ing fancy to this algo­rithm like ran­dom selec­tion; sim­ply being no.1 means you feel­ing lucky accord­ing to Google.

Now I don’t know about you but I never press that but­ton and quite hon­estly I won­der why Google keeps such a ridicu­lous fea­ture on the most pop­u­lar search engine in the world! This but­ton actu­ally in many instances could serve as an irri­ta­tion fac­tor to their key cus­tomers who are searchers because the no.1 result is often not the exact infor­ma­tion a searcher was look­ing for.

Maybe some­thing for Google to think about…
